Chemistry and Biology major Autumn Skowrenski received the Anna J. Harrison Award for outstanding oral presentation at the Connecticut Valley Section of the American Chemical Society’s (CVS-ACS) annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on April 20. The symposium brings together undergraduate research students from throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, and this year’s event featured 44 student presentations.
Skowrenski received the award for her presentation titled “Fluorescent Expression of Serotonin in Crayfish Retina,” which was work she did with Syed Abbas in the Biology Department and was the topic of her Honors thesis.
Nine Central students presented their work at the symposium. In addition to the outstanding oral presentation award, Skowrenski received an award for achievement in biochemistry. Student Abigail Denison received an award from CVS-ACS for achievement in chemistry.
